Editing

Are You an Author? Blogger? Need a Second Pair of Eyes?

You have a book! It’s almost ready to share with the world, but first, you know you want to make sure it’s perfect!

Editing ensures that your readers aren’t distracted by errors in punctuation or spelling, or confused by vague or unclear word usage.

It’s just the next step to being published!

Developmental Editing

Developmental editing is a bird’s-eye view of your manuscript. For fiction, it helps track plot consistency, character development, worldbuilding, and story themes. For nonfiction, it covers the book’s outline, topic, theme, and scope. Best to do sooner rather than later!

Copy Editing

Grammatical errors, punctuation mistakes, and incorrect word usage all distract a reader from what you’re trying to say. The goal is that your readers can enjoy your work without being sidetracked by errors. Copyediting helps ensure that your work is clear, consistent, and correct!

Proofreading

This is the last stage before a work goes to publication. Proofreading catches all the errors that may have slipped through before, and ensures that the work is ready for publication. You want to make sure all the final commas are in place before it’s published, and now is the time to do so!

For developmental editing, I review:

Fiction

  • Review the plot and check for plot holes

  • Review character development and believability

  • Check for worldbuilding consistency

Nonfiction

  • Review book structure

  • Check overall flow and readability

  • Catch major errors in reasoning and facts

When copy editing, I:

  • Note missing or incorrect punctuation

  • Identify formatting issues

  • Identify repetitive word usage

  • Flag sentences that are unclear to the reader

  • Check subject and verb agreement

  • Check for unnecessary fragments and incorrect sentence structure

  • Correct spelling and word usage (e.g., of homophones)

When proofreading, I:

  • Check spelling

  • Check word usage

  • Check punctuation

  • Check formatting

  • Double check references and citations

  • (for nonfiction)

“I wholeheartedly recommend Prisca for any editor role. Over the course of two years, I have had the pleasure of working with her and have been consistently impressed with her dedication and work ethic. Prisca is an avid reader and her passion for language shines through in her impressive editing skills. Her composition and style are not only easy to read, but also focused and impactful, ensuring that any piece she touches is elevated to its fullest potential.

I have had the pleasure of having Prisca edit some of my own work, specifically in the field of software project management. She took the time to thoroughly understand the subject matter before providing me with invaluable feedback. Prisca not only helped improve the narrative, but also provided constructive criticism that allowed me to see both the strengths and weaknesses of my work. Her keen eye for detail and ability to organize and structure information is truly impressive.

Prisca is not only a skilled editor, but also a pleasure to work with. She is a good listener, takes direction well, and is always willing to go the extra mile to ensure that the work she produces is of the highest quality.”

"Prisca offers valuable and creative insights for any literary work. Her feedback has helped me focus my short stories and make subtle changes that improve the overall tone and style of the piece."

— M. A. Kleen, American historical author and short story writer

“Prisca has edited many of my short stories and novels. She is able to assess an overall work and provide detailed feedback on theme, character arc, and plot momentum. She also can determine the grammatical accuracy of any sentence. I would highly recommend her as an editor!”
